In the world of Demon Slayer, Demons are man-eating beasts that have exceptional physical attributes.
The Demon Slayer Corps have developed some amazing swordsmanship styles called Breathing Style to fight on par with the powerful demons and some of them make their users superhumanly strong.
11. Breath of the Beast
Breath of the Beast is a technique that was developed by the brash and violent Inosuke Hashibira after living within the mountain jungles and surviving alone in the woods for so long.
Breath of the Beast is a distant relative of Breath of the Wind.
The breathing technique essentially focuses on enhancing a person’s explosive strength and increasing his or her sense of touch and hearing.
One of the greatest abilities this breath grant is the ability to sense everything within a range of miles.
Called Breath of the Beast Seventh Fang: Spatial Awareness, the ability essentially turns Insouke’sentire body into a human tuning fork that absorbs and interprets all vibrations to create an accurate map of his surroundings!
It is very useful in tracking and sensing demons.
10. Breath of the Serpent
Breath of the Serpent is derived from the Breath of Water.
It takes the fluidic motions of Water Breathing and adds twists and curls to the technique, effectively making the user dance around the battlefield like a snake.
Breath of the Serpent has the distinction of having unarmed fighting techniques.
It can be used with or without a sword. Breath of the Serpent’s Hashira Ibanai Iguro was so good at this technique that he gained the respect of Muzan Kibutsuchi as well as Michikjatsu Tsukiguni while using this form.
The technique can also be used to compensate for visual or auditory loss during the battle.
9. Breath of the Mist
Breath of the Mist is a technique that has been solely mastered by Muichiro Tokito.
As a pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps called as a Hashira, Muichiro developed and mastered Breath of the Mist by learning ways to use quick and fast swordsmanship that can disorient enemies in seconds.
Users of the Breath of the Mist rely on super quick movements that are beyond human comprehension.
The 14-year-old Muichirois so fast even other Hashira’s cannot track him when he is using his Breathing Forms.
The greatest attack within the technique is the Breath of the Mist Seventh Style: Obscuring Clouds.
The seventh style uses the greatest assets of the Mist Style to their maximum, hiding the actual attack within a plethora of faux pas sword strikes.
8. Breath of the Insect
Breath of the Insect is a sword fighting style developed for people that lack in strength.
It was created by Shinobu Kocho, the Hashira of the Insect Breathing, after studying the Breath of the Flower.
Breath of the Insect relies more on stabbing, piercing, and cutting a demon rather than slashing them.
The Nichirin sword that Shinobu uses is coated with Wisteria based poison.
Wisteria is lethal to demons and even a slight cut is enough to kill a demon in a few seconds.
Breath of the Insect has five forms with the most powerful form being its fifth form – Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zig-Zag.
7. Breath of Water
It is claimed to be the easiest technique to learn because of its simplicity and ease of use.
The Breath of Water is the most proliferated breathing technique for the same reason.
Many members of the Demon Slayer Corps know how to use it. Breath of Water focuses on fluid motions that capture an opponent’s momentum and turn it against them.
It can also be used to block a fall from great heights as well as when someone throws a Water Breath user with great force.
The Breath of Water is the most versatile of all the forms.
It was originally created by Yoriichi Tsukiguni, the Hashira of the Breath of the Sun after he found out that most of the Demon Slayer initiates were not able to learn the Breath of the Sun because of a lack of talent unlike him.
6. Breath of the Sound
Breath of the Sound breathing style requires its user to have the best hearing capabilities.
Tenzen Ugui uses this technique, which is derived from Breath of the Thunder.
Breath of the Sound requires its user to analyze and predict an opponent’s movements based on the sounds they make.
While it does not have as many forms as the other breathing techniques, it is one of the deadliest styles available in the entirety of the Demon slayer Corps due to its ability to augment a user’s offensive strikes.
Breath of the Sound analyses user movements based on rhythmic patterns to perform strikes that are brutally accurate but use the least amount of effort to be performed.
5. Breath of the Thunder
One of the five foundational breathing styles derived from Breath of the Sun, Breath of the Thunder, or Breath of the Lightning is used by Zenitsu Agatsuma.
Zenitsu shows incredible speed while performing this technique.
Although he only knows one form during the beginning of the series, he has mastered a seventh from that he developed on his own called Breath of the Thunder: Flaming Thunder God after studying Tanjiro’s Dance of the Fire God.
Thunder Breathing grants its user inhuman levels of speed.
The enemy is not even able to fathom when the sword left the scabbard and decapitated his head.
4. Breath of the Wind
Breath of the Wind is the most erratic and unpredictable of all the breathing styles.
It is said to be even more erratic than Breath of the Mist.
The technique relies on sudden gusts of speed with super quick slashes.
Breath of the Wind is useful in fighting multiple opponents at the same time.
Characterized by simultaneous slashes, the technique relies on the principle of “The Strongest Offense is the Best Defence”.
The technique usually requires its Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa t launch himself mid-air.
We might be putting this style so high above this list here because of the user. But we don’t care.
Gyomei has proven himself time and again in the Manga to be on even terms with Demon Moons like Michikatsu.
Stone Breathing grants him exceptional levels of dexterity, strength, durability, endurance, and agility.
Breath of the Stone was created by one of the original students of Yoriichi, who developed his own style due to being unable to learn Breath of the Sun.
The style focuses on powerful blows to render an opponent immobile or dead. Gyomei uses a thorn flail and an axe instead of a sword in battle while using Breath of the Stone.
2. Breath of the Moon
The Breath of the Moon does not fall under the purview of the Demon Slayer Corps.
It is the only sword fighting style that has the distinction of being used by a Demon.
MichikatsuYokiguni is the brother of Yoriichi Tsukiguni. Unable to learn the breathing style of his brother, Michikatsu was taught an alternate technique.
He then molded the technique to fit his strengths and weaknesses, creating the Breath of the Moon.
Breath of the Moon allows Michikatsu to create multiple Blades of Chaos with quick draw slashes.
Pretty much taking multiple leaves from modern-day Iaido, Breath of the Moon relies on speed and deadly accuracy to compensate for a lack in range.
It is the only form that has 16 different forms courtesy of Michikatsu becoming a demon and using his immortality to develop the technique even further over the years.
1. Breath Of The Sun
The Breath of the Sun is the most ancient breathing technique. It was created by the first-ever Demon Slayer.
All the other Demon Slaying Breathing Techniques like the Breath of Water, Breath of the Beast, Breath of Thunder, and Breath of Flames are derived from Breath of the Sun.
Alternatively known as Dance of the Fire God, Breath of the Sun is the most powerful breath style in all of Demon Slayer history.
It is currently a well-kept secret within the Kamado Family, the only known people who have managed to tame this notoriously difficult breathing style.
It has been passed down from father to son, from one generation to another.
TanjiroKamado is the last known user of the Breath of the Sun. The Style has 13 Forms that gracefully combine offense and defence.
It has five known forms, all mastered by the Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima, though they weren't developed by him. Gyomei is often referred to by his fellow Hashira Tanjiro and Inosuke as the strongest Hashira.
It is possible for a swordsman to use more than one Breathing Style technique at a time, allowing the user to take advantage of the advantageous aspects of both techniques. Tanjiro Kamado, for example, can use both the Water Breathing and Sun Breathing styles simultaneously. Is Stone breathing stronger than sun? ›
